Prayer for the Week: Gracious and merciful God, as we “fast from carbon,” grant us the humility and the inspiration to move through authentic mourning for the destruction of so much of your creation. Move us to accept our obligation to restore your creation, and to act with love and care for all that you call sacred. Prayer for the Week: Loving Creator God, We acknowledge you as the only source of growth and abundance. You provide us with food for body and spirit. With your help we plant our crops and by your power they produce our harvest. In your kindness and love, make our work fruitful. Bless our fields and the crops we plant; let them yield a rich harvest. Grant favorable weather to make these fields productive. Guide the work of our hands, for in you we live and move and have our being. Help us bring you glory by using well and sharing the good things we receive from you. We ask this through Jesus, the Christ. WHAT IS A CARBON FAST? What is a carbon fast for Lent? For Anglicans, Catholics and many others, Lent is the time when we remember the 40 days that Jesus spent in the wilderness, facing challenge and temptation. It is a time when we reflect on God’s purpose for our life. Many Anglicans take this opportunity to fast from coffee, alcohol or chocolates. But this year our challenge is deeper, to take a carbon fast – to reduce the actions which damage God’s Creation. To reduce our use of petrol, electricity, plastic, paper, water and toxins. We will take small steps for a more sustainable world, and by doing so rediscover a different relationship with God, with Creation and with one another. How do I take a carbon fast? From Ash Wednesday, 10 February to the 12 of March is a time of repentance, reflection and action. Each week has a theme with a prayer and actions for each day. Here is the link to download the 40 actions for the month.
