What do you have in your hand?
The youth from the Igwa-East Archdeaconry, in the Diocese of the Highveld, had their annual youth meeting at St. Mary’s Breyten on the 11th of December 2022. The theme for the event was “What is that in your hand?”, taken from the book of Exodus 4:2. Often times as young people we complain about what we don’t have, and forget about the things that God has given us to be stewards over. We saw this as a great opportunity to educate the youth in our area about the Green Anglicans program and to encourage them to be good stewards of the environment.
Phumlani Mthethwa, who serves as the Archdeaconry’s President and Diocesan Bursar taught young people about the Anglicans fifth mark of mission pertaining to creation and empowered them about the Green Anglicans program and the importance of us safeguarding creation.
Thereafter we planted two trees. The trees were blessed by Revd. Dubazane with the assistance of our recently retired Archdeacon Ven. CB Khumalo. The trees were planted with the help of our Diocesan Youth President, Thabo Magana and Silungile Khumalo, who serves as the Provincial Youth Secretary.
We learnt that ministry is not just to people, but it is to all creation, and so the youth in our Archdeaconry have pledged to be protectors of creation in their respective parishes and communities.
