Anglicans joined the more than 200 people who marched three kilometers in strong winds to the Shell offices in Cape Town to register their objections to fracking in South Africa. NGOs. Fracking, a process of drilling and injecting water and toxic chemicals into the ground at high pressures to release natural gases, (methane) has been banned in a number of countries because of concerns around the health and environmental impacts. The protesters handed a memorandum to the Water, Energy and Mineral Resources Department, demanding a Public discussion on the issue. The concerns are that fracking could pollute land, contaminate water and threaten the health of local residents.
