We feed our Earth, planting more trees

WE FEED OUR EARTH, PLANTING MORE TREES.   Thus was our motto on this April 22 World Earth Day, in which the Students of the Degree Course in Environment and Community Sustainability, Maxix Municipal Council and the Green Anglican-Inhambane performed tree planting of Shadow ( Houses) at Ngungunhane Avenue ( City of Da) Max). The personalities of this city (President of the Municipal Council, Administrator and Permanent Secretary), took part in the activity. The Earth is like a Child, it needs to be fed. Plant a tree and take care of the Earth!   Rev Aurelio Uquei

GREEN TEENS CLIMATE ACTIVISTS

On Friday the 1st of April 2022 the Green Anglicans Movement in Southern Africa together with the Anglican Diocese of Cape Town launched the “Green Teens Climate Activist” programme aimed at empowering teenagers from Cape Town and surrounding areas on issues of climate change and how they can become future Eco-warriors, who advocate for the protection of our environment both for this generation and those to come.  The day started of with some singing which led to the opening devotion led by Rev Shaun Cozett (Diocese of Cape Town Environmental Coordinator), under the theme of ‘Joining the trend so others might know’, we then moved on with getting to know each other by means of  an ice-breaker led by Ms Mel Awu, who is from St Paul’s Rondebosch and part of Toastmaster International and a very good public speaker.  The teens had to introduce themselves , tell us about their favourite bible verse and hints on how to save our planet and fight Climate Change. Amongst other things the teens warned us to stop burning our waste as the fumes are very toxic and dangerous, others encouraged buying of good quality second hand clothing which in turn saves us money and avoids clothing waste, many other ideas were shared and what came on top was community urban transformation clean ups (most of our teen are from communities which have illegal dumping sites).  Ms Mitchelle Mhaka from African Climate Alliance blessed us with a wonderful talk on why we are called to serve and to fight climate change and what the bible calls us to do. That Jesus in his own right was a radical activist. Caring about social and political reforms that helped the oppressed. It was inspiring to hear how God called so many teenagers in the Bible! The day was closed with a vote of thanks and what is expected from the teens by Rev Dr Rachel Mash. Story – J.P Roberts

Palm Sunday

“So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” John 12:12 The Bible tells us that people cut palm branches, laid them in Jesus’ path, and waved them as he entered the city of Jerusalem. They greeted him not as a spiritual Messiah, but as a potential political leader to overthrow the Romans – they shouted Hosanna (Save now!) blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!’ Date palms are majestic, tall trees that grow abundantly in the Holy Land. Their long and large leaves spread out from the top of a single trunk that can grow to more than 50 feet in height. In Bible times, the finest specimens grew at Jericho (which was known as the city of palm trees). In ancient times, palm branches symbolized goodness, well-being, grandeur, steadfastness, and victory. They were often depicted on coins and important buildings. King Solomon had palm branches carved into the walls and doors of the temple: On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. (1 Kings 6:29). Palm branches were regarded as tokens of joy and triumph and were customarily used on festive occasions (Leviticus 23:40, Nehemiah 8:15). Kings and conquerors were welcomed with palm branches being strewn before them and waved in the air. Palm Branches Today Today, many Christian churches distribute palm branches to worshipers on Palm Sunday, Customary Palm Sunday observances include the waving of palm branches in procession, the blessing of palms, and the making of small crosses with palm fronds. Now we recognise Jesus as our spiritual Messiah and Saviour of the world. One of the beautiful things that happened during COVID, when we were not able to have church services or Palm Sunday Processions is that people started putting palm branches or branches of other trees on their doors and gates, as a public witness. This is a wonderful tradition to continue- so that you can show your neighbours that you worship Jesus. Let us continue to place Palm or other branches on our homes to show our honour of Jesus! “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.” (Revelation 7:9) Adapted from https://www.learnreligions.com/palm-branches-bible-story-summary-701202

Sunrise, Sunset

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised. Psalm 113:3 In our modern world, we are usually in our homes with electronic light on during sunrise and sunset. Set yourself a challenge to be outside during sunrise or sunset this week. Either take a walk, or have your devotion outside, or take the kids for a breakfast or supper picnic. If it is too cold, then just open up your curtains and spend time enjoying the beauty of the sunrise or sunset. Have your morning prayers while looking at the beauty of the sunrise. Sunrise is a very special spiritual time. When you wake up early before the household rush begins, you can start the day in a more relaxed state of mind. When you start your day with peace and happiness, you carry the same vibes throughout the day, and you are better equipped to handle your day. Positivity attracts more positivity. Early morning hours are magical, with fewer distractions. This is the time for you to plan your day, week, month, and years ahead. Your mind is primed for big picture conceptual thinking during this time. This is the best time to ideate and conceptualize your big ideas. . You get time to work on your big ideas and goals, while the rest of the world is snoozing. The Sunrise has such beauty and peace. It is a time to connect with God the artist, who created such beauty. Take photos on your cell phone and share with us! #lent2022 #fast4earth #carbonfast #mylittlebitsofgood #sunrisesunset
